How to choose a robotics integrator

Choose a robotics integrator on five things: whether they are brand-agnostic or locked to one robot line; whether controls and programming are engineered in-house or subcontracted; whether they can show real installed cells; whether support is local enough to show up when a line is down; and whether they scope the project around a payback case rather than a sticker price.

1. Brand-agnostic, not single-line

Integrators tied to one robot brand bend every project to fit that arm. A brand-agnostic integrator starts with your part, cycle time, and floor, then specifies the platform that wins on cost per part. Ask which robot brands they integrate and why they would pick one over another for your job.

2. Controls and programming in-house

Mechanical design, controls, PLC, and robot programming should live under one roof. When they are subcontracted, timelines slip and accountability disappears at exactly the moment a problem shows up. One accountable team from concept through commissioning is what you are buying.

3. Proof of installed cells

Ask to see running cells and talk to references in your industry. A serious integrator can point to real installations with measured cycle time, labor freed, and payback, not just renderings.

4. Local support

When a line is down, response time is everything. A local team that can be on your floor the same day is worth far more than a lower quote from three states away. Ask where their service techs are based and what their response commitment is.

5. A payback case, not just a price

The right integrator scopes the project around cost per part and payback, and can show the math. If all you get is a lump-sum price with no payback logic, you cannot tell whether the investment makes sense.
